The
Nurse’s took my land, and I want it back. They thought they be so great, but I
see faults in this. Flaws in this world, that the land my daddy be working hard
to give me has been ripped from my hands, but it shall return. My Ruthy be
having vicious nightmares says she. She says that Rebecca Nurse comes in the
midst of night, and she attacks her. At first I was bewildered at the thought
of an old lady sneaking into our house in the dark of night, but it does not
take much physical endearment to attack someone in spirit. I heard sometimes
you don’t even know you’re doing it. Francis Nurse took my land, and had the
audacity to have his wife come and harm my only daughter. It only makes sense
that my children died at the hands of this woman. She be the Devil! My wife
says she tempts her to iniquity. Iniquity I tell you! This can only be the work
of the Devil. First, my land now it be my family. The nurse’s shant get away
with this anymore! My Ruthy is going to testify to this detrimental behavior. And
they shall hang for this one! (http://www.lakemaryhs.scps.k12.fl.us/students/cape_projects/web_design_projects/madison/salem_witch_trials/index.htm) My daughter Ruth were out in the forest with her best friend Betty Parris, her cousin, Abigail, and the other girls from the village. She came home fine, yet when I rose the next morning Ruth were laying there inert, and looking out into nothing. A few days ago, Ann sent my Ruthy to Parris’ slave, Tituba, to conjure up our children that doth lie in the ground. Even when our Ruthy were born, Ann were never totally healed from the systematic loss of our children. I thought Ruthy would heal her right up, and she’d be able to give up on our dead children, but not my Ann. She would never leave those children behind. But back to the topic at hand, my Ruthy is laying here looking out at nothing. I shook her and I smacked her, but nothing. I tried going to Parris’ house, but his daughter, Betty, is also lying motionless on her mattress. Abigail is wondering about clueless, but I know she knows what happened to my Ruthy and we will get to the bottom of this tonight. Parris be calling a special reverend to Salem. It figures enough since he cant take care of anything by his self. Bayley would’ve had this sort of thing handled before it even became a thing. There be talk of witchcraft all over the town. Such irony, witchcraft striking the house of the same righteous minister that beat Bayley out of a job. It serves him right.
My child were born! I were expecting a boy, but a bright
girl be here instead. At first, I were outraged! Who am I supposed to give my
riches too? Surely I can’t give a mere girl any money! I were hoping she be a
boy cause when I grow old, I must keep my family’s land in my family’s hand.
Ann were just so happy, so I then I just gave up. A girl will suffice. At least
she were alive. She were crying, yet I could here so much joy in her voice.
Kind of like she knew she were the first of the Thomas Putnam offspring to
live. She were it. She were my beautiful baby girl, and I promise to keep her
safe. If she were in any danger, I were go to the end of the world to keep this
child safe. Ann wanted to name her, Mary, after the virgin, but she looks more
like a Ruth, say I. Ann smiled, she were happy, so I were happy. Ruth will be
the happiest child, and I shall bring nothing but joy unto her. Ruth, my dear
daughter, she were just as precious as gemstones. Rebecca smiled, and presented
my daughter to me.
